This beautiful Jormungandr bracelet is made from high quality stainless steel, and comes in several finishes. It comes packaged in a handcrafted wood box that’s inscribed “VIKINGS”, and would be a great gift for any man. Who doesn’t love great stories of Vikings and their unrivaled adventurousness? The bracelet gets its name from the giant serpent Jormungandr from Norse mythology, and is also known as Midgardsormr (Midgard serpent).
According to legend, Jormungandr came into being from the fallen god Loki and the giantess Angrbod. They had two more descendants. The giant wolf Fenrir (see our Fenrir bracelet from the same collection), and the infamous goddess of the underworld named Hel. Since the gods of Asgard saw a threat in the serpent, Odin decided to cast it into the waters surrounding the world of men — Midgard (the name of our world in Norse mythology). It would appear that the new circumstances suited the serpent, as at one point Jormungandr grew so large as to be able to wrap around the entire world and bite its own tail. That is when the serpent drifted to sleep, that lasts to this day.
This is not bad news at all, since ancient Viking prophecies tell of the time when Jormungandr will wake from its slumber, let go of its tail and start on a rampage that marks one of the signs of the coming end of days and the demise of the gods — Ragnarok. According to that prophecy, the mighty Thor will manage to kill the giant serpent in a great struggle, but die soon after from the venom he ingested.
But enough about Viking myths and legends. Let’s turn our attention to the Jormungandr bracelet itself. As we mentioned at the beginning, it comes in several finishes — the standard silver color, gold color, a combination of the two, and perhaps the most interesting option that looks like old silver, which we called “black”.
The buckle also has an original design that fits very well with the rest of the Jormungandr bracelet. A stylized serpent’s head opens its jaws when pressed, and that allows for the other end (the tail) to enter the mouth and lock the bracelet — just like the Jormungandr of legend.
A part of the overall package is a handcrafted wooden box that closes with a simple buckle at the front. Made out of dark-colored wood, it gives a feel of old age and times past. The lid contains an inscription — “VIKINGS”. The box itself is very compact and measures 10 × 7 × 4 centimeters (3.94″ × 2.76″ × 1.57″). The Jormungandr bracelet rests on a heap of fine wood shavings, and there’s also a black cotton baggie that can serve as a way to store the bracelet.
With such a presentation, the Jormungandr bracelet is a gift you simply can’t go wrong with. You will bring joy to the faces of your best friend, brother, boyfriend or husband, when they see the gift that you bought them. In the end, there’s nothing stopping you from giving yourself a small pleasure and becoming the owner of this exquisite Jormungandr bracelet. In any case, whether you’re buying it as a gift to yourself, or a gift for someone else, you will surely be making a good decision!
